Drechsler, Baltimore, 1941, one of 1,000 copies. Illustrated with b&w photographs. 6.75" x 9.5". 225 pp. Decorated brown cloth, neat ink owner inscription on endpaper. A history of the Koppers Company - foundry and ironworks, defense contractors, etc. The "dogs" referred to in the title are life-sized cast iron Newfoundland dogs manufactured by Koppers. I've seen some of these and they are impressive. Includes a chapter on "Sailor" and "Canton", ".the Newfoundland primogenitors of the Chesapeake Bay's peculiar breed of amphibious retriever", and the Chesapeake Bay retriever, and a chapter on waterfowling on the Chesapeake Bay and the seafood of the region. Very good.
