HC. 140 ill. w/110 color plates (illustrator). 192pp ISBN 0810931885 David Linley, who specializes in creating fine furniture in a modern classical idiom, here offers an illustrated introduction to classical furniture from the viewpoint of a modern master of style. He then traces the gradual spread of classical ideas through Europe in the centuries after Palladio. He has also assembled here a directory of furniture, and indispensable pattern book of classical designs, that covers the evolution of styles in chairs and tables, cabinets and screens, sofas and daybeds, etc. very good w/very good dustjacket (hardcover).

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This book is the first to take a subject that has previously been represented only in dry histories onto a new and spectacular level, in which furniture's 'star pieces', whether made in the distant past or in the 21st century, are seen in an entirely fresh light. Drawn from all periods, these exquisite objects - chairs, desks, sofas - are timeless in their arresting beauty. The book's rich and varied illustrations include details of carving, ornamentation and upholstery, views of different styles of furniture used in historic and contemporary interiors, original drawings, and spectacular pieces, both antique and contemporary. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Published by David Linley Furniture Ltd., London, UK
Seller: Manian Enterprises, Nashua, NH, U.S.A.
Book
Soft cover. Condition: As New. A collection of three promotional booklets/catalogs/brochures highlighting different aspects of David Linley's furniture making design and artistry. The first is an early portfolio of sorts that includes nine separate pages enclosed in a folder that has a cut-out on the front to showcase the top page. Various designs are highlighted in this collection: pieces that are made using marquetry (screens and desk accessories), a unique folding desk and chair, a burr yew desk, etc. Each item appears on a separate page with a color photograph, a short explanation, the names of the designers, and stats (dimensions, etc.). One of the pages in this portfolio includes a photograph of the four directors of David Linley Furniture Ltd. when this was published, together with brief explanations of their duties: David Linley (Chairman), Matthew Rice (Designer and Co-founder), Dr. Miriam Stoppard (Marketing) and John Leonard Clarke (Financial Director). Another page is a personal statement from David Linley on what his company is all about. Not dated, but judging from the photographs, it is probably a very early piece in the company's history, from the 1980's. Measures 8.5" x 12". The second is a traditional catalog of furniture photographed in room settings. Includes a short essay on "Commissioning and Making Fine Furniture" - describing the process from design to completion. Stats on each piece are included as well as prices. Not dated but probably from the past 10 years or so. Measures 8.25" x 11.75" with 41+ pages. The third item is a promotional brochure on "Gun Cabinet and Shooting Accessories", including a Linley Gun Cabinet and Gentleman's Shooting Companion (liquor and cigar case). A four-page booklet that measures 5.75" x 8.25", it is printed on heavier, glossy stock highlighting these items with color photographs. All items are in generally excellent condition with no marks of any kind. SALE PRICE.
