Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). This appears to be the Only signed copy of this book for sale anywhere on the Internet. And it comes with a story, a rather morbid story. It is inscribed to 'Shirley and Eli'. Eli is Eli M. Black. Wikipedia will tell you that he controlled the United Brands Company, and that his son is Leon Black, a founding member of the private equity firm Apollo Management. Also that 'in 1975, the Securities and Exchange Commission uncovered a $2.5 million bribe that Black offered to Honduran president Oswaldo López Arellano in order to obtain a reduction of taxes on banana exports. A few weeks before the scandal broke Mr. Black went to his office on the forty-fourth floor of the Pan Am Building in Manhattan and jumped to his death. His suicide was the inspiration for a scene in the 1994 screwball comedy film The Hudsucker Proxy.' The book is in very nice condition. You can see the covers in the photographs provided. It is also very solidly bound, absolutely no issues in that regard. With the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else on any page in the book. The pages are very clean. I didn't see any soiling at all. Nor did I see any creasing or dogeared corners. And there aren't any markings or attachments. The dust jacket is in very good condition. It has only one tiny tear off the top edge of its rear cover. It has a couple of very small spots on the front and spine is slightly darkened. The jacket is NOT price-clipped. It will be fitted with a protective cover. Inscribed by Author(s).
