Dated 1936 on the copyright and title page. Stated first edition. 249 pages. Good condition. Pages are lightly and evenly toned throughout, with darker toning to the edges. No marks or notes to be found. Full color plates throughout. The binding is a touch loose, but covers are still well attached and there are no missing pages. Light rubbing to the cloth at the spine and corners. Corners are bumped. Overall light shelf rubbing and light wear from age, but no major bumps or creases. A previous owner's name written neatly at the head of the front attached endpaper, along with, " and now Tom Lovejoy September 27, 1980". This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the main stream environmental movement. In addition, he was an avid collector of books on the natural world.
