Second edition. 137, [1] pp. Bound in publisher's illustrated wraps. Very Good+ with slight roll and some foxing to spine, light wear, pages toned with age; much nicer shape than typically found. Uncommon in all editions.A very collectible novel of cannabis in the Beat era with an iconic cover image of a provocatively-clad blonde lady holding a joint like an antenna at half mast and sitting on the wooden floor, stoned out of her gourd. Very risque for the time, it would be the target of a Congressional Sub-Committee. The pseudonymous author's identity as been the subject of much debate. It ranks at the top of this bookseller's all-time pantheon of laughably implausible pen names, next to X. Sharks de Spot and Raccoona Sheldon.

Book First Edition
Pictorial Wraps. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. RARE TRUE FIRST EDITION. Original Uni-Book No. 19. DIGEST FORMAT. An original novel - not a reprint. With 35c cover price. EARLY PULP CLASSIC. Printed across front cover the red & yellow banner states "She fell prey to the foulest of rackets!". Rear cover states "Complete and unexpurgated! Every word of the original manuscript appears in this work. An original novel - not a reprint". Includes A Glossary of Jive printed at rear (5pp). Digest Format. The FIRST PRINTING of this title was Uni-Book No. 19, as per this copy, followed by Stallion Books 204 (reprint). Both digest-format editions. The title was then published in 1960 in mass market paperback format by Beacon, New York, No. B328, with 35 cent cover price (followed by Beacon's later 75c reprint, numbered S75124). A quintessential book of the genre. The identity of the author, N.R. De Mexico, has been open to speculation for decades with many declaring him to be writer Larry Shaw. However, Shaw denied it, saying that "N.R." stood for "Not Really". N.R. de Mexico is the pseudonym of a writer who wrote three books under that name in the 1940s and 50s. The three titles were Marijuana Girl, Madman on a Drum, & Private Chauffeur (all are scarce). Marijuana Girl has become a cult classic, & in the original pulp & digest editions is highly prized by modern-day collectors. In 1951, De Mexico wrote a book that would put his name into the Congressional Record in a debate about the negative effect of paperback literature on American culture. That book, Marijuana Girl, would become Exhibit A in Rep. Ezekiel C. Gathings' Congressional Sub-Committee's mini-crusade against drug use in popular literature. Printed in the USA. Bound in publisher's original colour pictorial wraps with classic 1950s-vintage front cover illustration of a drug-induced woman sitting on the floor, half-dressed in a blue negligee & robe, with a marijuana joint in her hand. Fragile covers with several small & large chips to edges (notably two words lacking from front cover lettering along top edge: lacks "Joyce Tay" from the sentence "Joyce Taylor would try anything - if it promised a thrill!"), moderate handling wear, pages mildly toned, small closed tear to page 59/60, otherwise overall a nice clean tight solid softcover copy. 127pp. Scarce title in any condition, this is the EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION in GOOD to VG condition.
