While these criteria work well through the '40s and '50s ("But Beautiful," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Bewitched") do we detect here a reluctance to admit that -- with the exception of "New York, New York" -- Old Blue Eyes' 15 entries listed here from 1966 to 1983 ("Strangers In the Night" is omitted) were the work of an old-timer with decreasing relevance to the "history of American popular music" in the era of Elvis, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones . . . the rock 'n roll he so loudly reviled?
