Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 47 pages. No date stated, but likely 1909 edition with NY publisher, "Printed in England". "Dedicated to every child in the Empire." "Pictured" (illustrated) by Gladys Hall with b&w drawings throughout and several color plates. Little book, 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", textured brown boards with red lettering, patterned end papers, stitch of red thread on front board where a peg doll was originally attached; printed on semi-gloss stock. A rare children's classic, not in good shape: doll missing, boards frayed at corners, hinges broken to near-detachment from binding (but one sewn link remains), stains to end papers, a couple of non-professional scotch tape repairs to interior; chips, stains, a few foxing spots and eroded patches on pages. A much-used copy, in which, however, the color plates remain bright and beautiful.
4to. [24]pp including decorated title-page, tinted and colour-printed full-page text illustrations. Original red-linen-backed colour-printed pictorial glazed-boards. Binding rubbed and lightly soiled; occasional light soiling to margins.
