Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Ralph Rambo (illustrator). 1st Edition. This work is the story of San Jose, California, under Spain and Mexico. This was pioneering with mules instead of covered wagons, and adobe huts instead of log cabins. Through it all was Luis Maria Peralta, the most responsible man in the pueblo in its early years with his enormous land grant. His home still stands--the two-room adobe where a number of his seventeen children were born. The book contains photographs, illustrations, a table of weights and measures of provincial California, a glossary of Spanish terms, notes, and an index. Map is in rear pocket. Limited Numbered Edition, number 696 of 800. Jacket is worn, lacks a portion on the front, no text is missing; otherwise, this copy is clean and solid. Facsimile signature is on the dedication page.

Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. Illustrated by Ralph Rambo (illustrator). 2nd Edition. B&W Illustrations; SIGNED EDITION. This copy has been signed, with a short inscription, by the author. This is a trade paperback book. The book is in Near Fine condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book is clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. "Ralph Rambo (1894 1990) was a San Jose (California) historian. He wrote 14 books about life in the Santa Clara Valley in California. He was born in San Jose, California on May 16, 1894 and died in Palo Alto, California on May 19, 1990. His books were extremely colorful and, according to the author, loosely recounted his experiences growing up during the pioneer days in the area. Ralph Rambo's profession was a graphic artist. He was the Art Director for Muirson Label Company for almost fifty years. His illustrations are quite vivid, often hand-lettered in an entertaining or comics fashion. He merged humor with history in order to convey historical value of his stories." (from PeoplePill); Signed by Author.
