In 1954 the wife of Dr Sam Sheppard was murdered in a particularly brutal fashion. Within hours of the discovery of Marilyn Sheppard's body, her husband, Sam, was charged with her murder and went to trial. Rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the dustwrapper panels and sunning will. quite noticeable sunning to the backstrip  the red colouration of the title has faded considerably. Sheppard, a neurosurgeon in Columbus, Ohio, came to notoriety when his wife was murdered in 1954 and he was accused and found guilty of being the killer. A then-young lawyer, F.Lee Bailey, took his case in 1961 and by 1966 Sheppard was free and Bailey's reputation as one of the most famous trial lawyers in history began. The case is said to be the inspiration for the TV series and subsequent movie, "The Fugitive".
