Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Donald E. Green & John Jensen (illustrator). First Edition. Writer and broadcaster Sheridan Morley has been going to the theatre - good theatre, bad theatre, English theatre, American theatre, European theatre - for more nights of his life than he cares to remember. This book is a collection of his theatre reviews from the early 1970s, put together chronologically in an attempt to explain what our theatre in the '70s have so far been like, not in terms of abstract theories but of nightly experiences. For since the early '60s there has been no collection of theatre reviews of any complete record of the British theatre. While the British film industry has an entire Institute devoted to the upkeep of its archives, the theatre - which cannot be preserved beyond the closing night of each production - has nothing of the kind. And unless some record is made and kept of our contemporary theatre, its lessons and its triumphs and its disasters will be remarkably hard for future generations to benefit from and even to understand. Very slight foxing to end pages. Some wear and tear to D/J.
