Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. The cover has brown cloth with red letters. 293 pages. The publisher's colophon is on the copyright page. The story's settings include Paris and Brussels. The ends of the spine strip are a little softened. The back board has sheen loss, in a mottled fashion, along three edges. The top edge of the front board has a slight bump. The endpapers have tanned, but are darker along the folds. The text block ends have darkened. The pages are tanned and have very sparse, small, light stains. The front FEP has four pinholes left by staples. A few pages each have a 1/8 in. to 1/4 in. closed tear on the bottom, inside corner. DJ: Three of the front panel's corners and the top end of the spine panel have large chips. Seven other chips are smaller, up to 3/8 in. A 2 in. closed tear is on a fold. Most of another fold is split. Other closed tears are up to 1/2 in. The spine panel has darkened, and the white areas on the front and back panels are less so. There is also shelf wear soiling. The front panel has 2 in. x 3/4 in. white area left by the removal of a label on the bottom end; midway is a 3/4 in. diameter circle of ink. Scans e-mailed upon request.
