Blue cloth boards with green iris decoration, gold coat of arms , gold lettering on cover, gold lettering and small gold trident on spine. Light soiling and wear, with very small spot of wear-through to one lower corner tip, light surface wear to edges. No fraying. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Previous owner inscription dated August 1, 1905 is penned on front free endpaper. Wonderful frontispiece illustration with clean printed tissue guard; four additional full-page illustrations with printed tissue guards, plus many smaller illustrations throughout. Gilt top page edges. There is a faint water stain to many of the page margins. Rear pastedown has a large but rather quaint Rochester, NY booksellers label on it with instructions to the Postmaster. 229 pages. This book is far from perfect, but I love it for its beautiful binding decoration and lovely illustrations, even its quirky flaws.
