2003. N&M Press reprint (original pub 1951). SB.xvi, 286pp, portraits, maps. This second of the three-volume history of one of the oldest Infantry regiments in the British Army tells the SLIâ s story from the aftermath of the Great War through to the end of the Second World War. IT was written, according to its author, while memories of that conflict were still fresh in the minds of those who fought it. The SLI was in the forefront of the belated mechanisation of the British Army during the 1930s as the threat of war loomed. During the â Phoney Warâ , apart from its 1st battalion in India, the Regiment was on home defence duties. While the majority of the Regiment trained at home for the conflict ahead, the 1st battalion helped fight off the Japanese threat to India in the Arakan campaign. The regiment took part in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, landing art Salerno, and fighting its way up Italy through Rome to Florence. Meanwhile other battalions odf the regiment landed in N ormandy on D-Day as airbourne troops, and took part in the Battle of the Falaise Gap.In the final phase of the war in Europe, the SLI crossed the Rhine and advanced deep into the heart of Germany. After the Italian campaign, other elements of the regiment helped occupy Greece. The main text is accompanied by 12 appendices, six photographs, seven general maps, and 22 local maps.

2005 N&M Press reprint (original pub1923). HB. xvi + 357pp with two portrait photos and three maps These four battalions were raised on the same day, 28 August 1914, by the Lord Mayor and City and designated 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th City of Manchester Battalions, 1st City Brigade: The Manchester Pals. In December 1914 all the locally raised battalions were numbered and the four battalions became 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Battalions, The Manchester Regiment, forming the 90th Brigade of the 30th Division, an entirely Lancashire division with the crest of the Earl of Derby as its divisonal sign. They arrived in France in November 1915. Their first major battle was on 1st July when the division recorded one of the few successes of that awful day by securing all its objectives, including Montauban. This achievement is recognised by a memorial to the Manchester and Liverpool Pals battalions erected in Montauban and unveiled in 1994. In this action Sgt Evans of the 18th Battalion won the VC. In 1918, in the German March offensive the 16th Battalion fought a rearguard action on a feature known as Manchester Hill, where the CO, Lt Col W Elstrob was awarded a posthumous VC. There is an excellent map showing the dispositions of the battalion, still useful for anyone visiting the site today. The book is divided into four parts, one for each battalion, each with its own contents list, and the pattern for each battalion is the same: formation and training, roll of officers embarking for France, and description of the fighting. Each battalion record ends with its own honours and awards list and roll of honour in which the officers killed are shown in order of date and the other ranks lists are taken from Soldiers Died. Finally there is a section containing congratulatory messages to formations in which the battalions served.

2010 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1928) SB xxiii + 673 with 17 coloured plates (16 of uniform and I of colours) MapsPublished Price £32 The Inniskillings are one of the proudest names in the history of Irish regiments in the British Army. Originating from a local defence force raised in the town of its name in the time of King William III, the Inniskillings fought in Ireland and Flanders under that monarch. They were employed as marines under the ill-fated Admiral Byng in the Mediterranean; and in the War of Jenkinsâ Ear. Used to help quell Bonnie Prince Charlieâ s 1745 rebellion, the regiment played its part in winning Canada from the French in the Seven Yearsâ War, and served in the American War of Independence. Expanded to two, then three battalions the Inniskillings covered themselves with glory in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, - fightiung the French in Egypt, and the Peninsular War, in which their battle honours include Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, NIvelle, Orthez and Toulouse. The first Battalion of the Regiment won laurels at Waterloo and was frequently deployed in India during the 19th century. (This history contains a chapter on the 108th [Madras Infantry] Regiment, and its forebear, the 3rd [Madras Infantry] Regiment which was raised to combat the Indian Mutiny. It was re-designated at the 2nd battalion of the Inniskillings in 1881). The Inniskillings subsequently saw service in the Boer War. This fine history takes the Regimentâ s story up to the outbreak of the Great War. It includes 30 b/w photos; 16 colour prints, 21 maps and a list of the Regimentâ s COs.

CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 125th Pennsylvania Infantry served a 9-month term from August 1862 to May 1863. The Regiment fought at the Battle of Antietam. The Regiment was noted for its charge through the East Woods, along the Great Cornfield, down Smoketown Road, past the Dunker Church, and into the West Woods. While in formation beyond the Dunker Church in an 'overextended' position, the Regiment repulsed four counterattacks at a price of 229 casualties (33% of engaged) within 20 minutes. A fifth, heavily reinforced Confederate counterattack forced a retreat with a desperate struggle to retain the Regimental colors. Two weeks before the end of their enlistment, the 125th Pennsylvania also occupied the perimeter of Chancellorsville, Virginia, during the Battle of Chancellorsville. REFERENCES: DORN PA 305; NEVINS I pg 144: "Another potpourri of statistics and short narratives about a nine-month regiment; treats almost entirely of Antietam.".
