Gilt stamped titles on backstrip and front board. Front hinge soft; text block cracked at the rear, but still very solid; contemporary Christmas gift inscription on the front flyleaf. With 12 tipped-in illustrations, all present. Illustrated by Charles A. Federer. Book illustrator Charles Augustus Federer (1880-1966) was active in Connecticut, New York, and Missouri. He was a student at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts from 1896 to 1898.

Light age-toninng to pages. Rubbing to dustjacket edges with three inch closed tear to front edge, and small closed tears along top edge. Small chips to corners and bottom of dustjacket spine. Bookseller's sticker to rear flap of dustjacket. Note: Several of the stories feature African children, and Mother Goose readily uses the "'n" word in reference to them.
