The designs comprise mythological and classical compositions, female figures, heads of bishops and Turks, military and other costume of the period, horses, combats, etc. after Jost Amman by various engravers. Originally intended for instructional use, the work is rarely found complete, as here. The binding attribution to Payne is as per the Huth catalogue.
