Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Inscribed and signed by editor Mike Berliner, to legendary comedian and social commentator, Mort Sahl, on the first free endpage. Unfortunately, the book and dust jacket are both water-stained. The stain appears in the lower left corner of the book's first few pages. After that, the pages are clean but there is wrinkling to the lower part of the pages until around halfway through the book. The stains reappear near the end of the book at the bottom of the pages. The water stains are also visible, though faint, on the lower left part of the spine and the lower right part of the book's back cover. The mustard yellow cloth on the book's exterior covers and spine is clean. The book's hinges are secure and the book does not suffer from spine lean. It's cover corners are not bumped. The dust jacket is not price-clipped. The water stains are not visible on the exterior (visible) parts of the jacket but there is staining on the inside. The glossy surfaces of the jacket appear clean with light rubbing. There is a light crease in the spine and light wear to edges but no holes, chips or tears. Book and dust jacket will be bubble-wrapped and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe transit. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. SIGNED by both editors on bookplate of front flyleaf. Is Ayn Rand, as Susan Brownmiller claims in an essay reprinted here, "a traitor to her own sex"? Or do Rand and her work, as other contributors argue, embody essential feminist characteristics? Feminist Interpretations of Ayn Rand offers abundant food for thought on these and other gender issues in the body of Rand's work, especially Atlas Shrugged. Both editors have published their own works on Rand. (Gladstein, The Ayn Rand Companion, 1984; Sciabarra, Ayn Rand: The Russian Radical, 1995). Here's a beautiful copy with a bookplate signed by both editors. No jacket as issued. Book #Pv3314. $52. We specialize in Rare Ayn Rand, history, and science. Signed by Author(s).

Red boards, gilt embossed facsimile signature, black cloth boards, gilt spine titles, moderate shelf wear, rub. Pages good; moderate discoloration, fox at endps., text block. Bind good, some cant; hinges intact. Dust wrapper, moderate edge wear, rub, toning; unclipped 16.95, protected in new clear sleeve. Stunning jacket art by C. Lichty of red shadowed block titles of American flag w/black swastika at center. In Common Sense Economics he cites as influences, Murray Rothbard, Henry Hazlitt, and Ludwig von Mises. Ayn Rand chose Leonard Peikoff to be her successor as the spokesman for Objectivism. And in this brilliantly reasoned, thought-provoking work we learn why, as he demonstrates how far America has been detoured from its original path and led down the same road that Germany followed to Nazism. Self-sacrifice, Oriental mysticism, racial "truth," the public good, doing one's duty--these are among the seductive catch-phrases that Leonard Peikoff dissects, examining the kind of philosophy they symbolize, the type of thinking that lured Germany to its doom and that he says is now prevalent in the United States. Here is a frightening look at where America may be heading, a clarion call for all who are concerned about preserving our right to individual freedom. Dr. Piekoff presents here an extraordinarily perceptive thesis. His insights into the parallel philosophical tracks of pre-Nazi Germany and contemporary America are frightening. Everyone concerned with the collectivist trend in today's world should read this book. Includes a 26-page reference index or bibliography organized by chapter, and a detailed 12-page index. 383 pages. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall. Signed by Author. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. SIGNED and Perfect in protective shrink wrap as issued, Copy #208 of 225 copies of the Letters of Ayn Rand rests in a fine custom designed clamshell box with gold foil lettering hand-stamped onto European Iris linen cloth. Accompanying the book is a facsimile letter and addressed envelope of Ayn Rand written to husband Frank O'Connor in 1936 - her first letter of love. Letter in envelope kept in place inside clamshell cover with white satin ribbon as bow. Ayn Rand s surviving letters track the arc of her career from a budding playwright and novelist in the 1930s to an accomplished author of best sellers in the 1940s and 1950s to a philosopher and cultural commentator in the 1960s and 1970s. Collected and organized by editor Michael S. Berliner, the Ayn Rand Institute's first executive director, Rand s letters are consistently full of original observations, reflecting the force of her intellect and personality, as she writes to literary agents, editors, producers, publishers, directors, screenwriters, actors, journalists, intellectuals, other novelists, ministers, artists, political activists, attorneys, prominent businessmen, fans, and friends and relatives. "Here is Ayn Rand talking about everything under the sun," writes Rand s longtime associate Leonard Peikoff of these collected letters, "and now we have the privilege of listening in." First edition in book form of the successful Broadway play by the author of The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in the year of publication on the front free endpaper, "To Wendy - Cordially - Ayn Rand 11/13/68." Very good in a very good dust jacket which has become adhered to the boards. With an additional dust jacket which is in near fine condition. Night of January 16th is a theatrical play by Ayn Rand, inspired by the death of the "Match King", Ivar Kreuger. Set in a courtroom during a murder trial, an unusual feature of the play is that members of the audience are chosen to play the jury. The court hears the case of Karen Andre, a former secretary and lover of businessman Bjorn Faulkner, of whose murder she is accused. The play does not directly portray the events leading to Faulkner's death; instead the jury must rely on character testimony to decide whether Andre is guilty. The play's ending depends on the verdict. Rand's intention was to dramatize a conflict between individualism and conformity, with the jury's verdict revealing which viewpoint they preferred.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. SIGNED First Edition, long out of print. Isabel Paterson, author of The God of the Machine (1943), was a crucial and formative influence on Ayn Rand. "Friends recall the young Rand literally 'sitting at the master's feet' as Paterson discussed American history" (Burns, Goddess of the Market, 76-8). The idea for Atlas Shrugged (1957) "came to Rand after a conversation with Paterson in 1943, and Paterson had encouraged her during the work's early stages" (Cox, Culture & Liberty). Evidence of Paterson's influence is evident "in the inscription that Rand wrote in Paterson's copy of The Fountainhead: 'You have been the one encounter in my life that can never be repeated'" (Cox, Woman and the Dynamo). "Of Paterson's novels, The Singing Season (1924) and The Golden Vanity are especially relevant to libertarian ideas" (Cato Institute). The Golden Vanity is both a social comedy of errors and a sardonic view of the Jazz Age and the crash, told through the lives of three self-assertive, distinctly different women. Paterson follows their stories through the economic collapse of 1929 and demonstrates with sophisticated wit that "doing what everyone else is doing" is not the best way to survive such times. Book has no writings or markings of any kind. Unclipped ($2.50) jacket has minor chipping along top/bottom of spine and edges. Very Rare. Book #Pv3313. $2500.
