Collins, tell the story in highly readable fashion, bringing it up to the date of publication. The third volume, by Wilfred Jordan, treats particular topics, such as commerce and industry, manufacturing, electricity, and transportation. The final volume, which is by far the thickest and heaviest, contains biographies of notables, accompanied by a goodly number of full-page portraits.
