Trade Paperback. Condition: Fine. First Printing. 76 Pages This is a March 1993 release. Marion Grinstead with a work on the people and events leading up to the Battle of Valverde, which took place on February 21, 1862. This work centers on one of the principal persons of that battle, Alexander McRae. McRae was a professional soldier in the peacetime years before the Civil War. He served at a number of posts, mainly in the west, and met his end during the Civil War battle fought along the Rio Grande in territorial New Mexico. Grinstead uses original research in family papers which gives this short study an authenticity and historical accuracy not often found in studies such as this. The story of McRae and his battery of artillery is brought to life through Marion Grinstead's writing.
