Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. 396 pages (complete). A heavy, charming copy. Rebound in quarter leather with original boards. No publication date with some confusion as to the issue of the "New Edition" with 1892 and 1909 both quoted. We have taken the later date for caution. The boards are much worn and scuffed and marked. They are resolutely genteel. The leathered corners, edges and spine are scuffed and a little marked. They are otherwise sound. The page-edged have been gilded (this is rusted). Within, the contents are worn, marked from storage. However, in general the contents are agreeable and comfortable. They are clear, mild-mannered, elegant, venerable, durably amenable. fk. Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Magnificent, but NOT in good shape. The gorgeous oversized Dore' engravings may make your eyes tear. Unfortunately for us, this book has been MUCH LOVED and worn to show it. this is a candidate for re-binding, (or, heavens forbid, and say you did not read it here, for framing) as the cover is split loose, but the bindery stitching has held up rather well. Rubbing, tearing, chipping, fraying, with some foxing to pages. Gilt top. Page after page of large-format engravings, each with protective tissue. Please note: Due to the weight of this tome, overseas shipping will be considerably more than the quoted ABE price. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1870 The Vision of Dante Alighieri HELL Purgatory Paradise DIVINE COMEDY Cary The Vision; or, Hell, Purgatory, & Paradise of Dante Alighieri, translated by Rev. Henry Francis Cary, is the English version of Dante s The Divine Comedy. This epic poem explores the soul s journey to God through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, guided by the figures of Virgil, Beatrice, and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, representing reason, divine grace, and mysticism, respectively. Originally written in Tuscan dialect, which shaped modern Italian, the three-part poem combines allegory with realism. Cary s translation captures the essence of Dante s narrative that intertwines spiritual redemption with literary innovation. Published in New York by Hurst and Co., this rare, scarcely printed 19th-century edition of Dante s iconic work is enriched by Cary s scholarly commentary, a chronology of Dante s life, and additional notes. Beautifully bound in decorative blue cloth, it is illustrated with 24 stunning engraved plates. Item number: #41584 Price: $499 ALIGHIERI, Dante; CARY, Rev. Henry Francis (Transl.)
