Item Description: Doubleday, Garden City, 1980. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. One of the dedication copies of this pseudonymous work by the horror/thriller master. Inscribed by Koontz to Mary Ann Prencevic, one of the dedicatees: To Mary Ann, if you'll look ahead to the dedication page, you'll see that my pleasure in having you for a friend is set in cold type for everyone to see. Love, Brian Coffey alias Dean R. Koontz." Koontz is now one of the best-known and best-selling horror and thriller writers after Stephen King, but in 1980 he was much less well-known and had published most of his previous works only in paperback, many of them pseudonymously. This is a relatively early hardcover from Koontz, dating from before the days of his fame and celebrity. Small repaired scuff on the rear pastedown, lower corner bump; near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light wear to the spine extremities. Scarce: dedication copies seldom turn up on the market, especially by so popular an author as Koontz. Bookseller Inventory # 032795

Book is unread with pages that are white with sharp corners, no creased page corners, nice tight spine with no spine lean, no internal hinge splits or glue tearing at internal spine creases (common defect with this book because its so heavy it puts a lot of strain on the hinge), no former owner's markings or used bookstore stamps/stickers inside, no scotch tape marks or other discoloration to endpapers, no wear to board edges or corners or spine tips, very very tiny bump to top right board corner, internal hinges are still tight. Dust jacket has no chipping, tearing or creasing, no wear to front flap crease or to spine tips, no age yellowing, no soiling or staining to this all-white dust jacket, no edge wear, no spine sun fading. Item Description: Cameo, 1970. Soft cover. Book Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. ANN GRIFFIN (DEAN KOONTZ penname) - FLESH WAGER, published by Cameo #8066, copyright 1970, First printing. This book is one of a number of 30 or so books that Dean Koontz wrote for Cameo books early in his career under various pennames (like Linda Mitchell or Leonard Chris), and one book he actually published under his own name (Bounce Girl). Dean Koontz has since disavowed and otherwise denied having ever written such books (besides Bounce Girl which was published under his own name and the Leonard Chris book "Hung"), but the evidence is undisputable: The Library of Congress confirms that Gerda Ann Koontz (Dean's wife) holds the copyrights to this book. "Gracie" is one of the five names listed in the dedication of the gothic romance "Demon Child" (which Koontz wrote under the penname of Deanna Dwyer). All five of the first names listed in the dedication of "Demon Child" have turned out to be pseudonyms that Dean had used for this particular "Adult" literature. In an article written by Dean Koontz entitled "Dean's Drive" in the sci-fi fanzine Energumen #8 (6/71), Dean Koontz admitted to writing 30 of these books in 1970 (including "Share The Warm Flesh" and "Flesh Wager" - this book), along with Pig Society and The Underground Lifestyles Handbook (both of which were also published by the same publisher, Cameo books in 1970). One of the titles that Dean Koontz admits to having written ("Thirteen and Ready") was written under the penname of Ann Griffin. In an early sci-fi fanzine, Beabohema #8 (1970), Dean Koontz again talked about writing these books. The authors initials (A.G.) are simply Dean's wife's initials in reverse. One of the Ann Griffin cameo books "Protest Ball," lists the author's address as Harrisburg, Pennsylviania (where Dean and his wife were living in 1970). Finally, in Dean Koontz's writing how-to book "How to Write Popular Fiction" (1972), he refers to these books and specifically to the Ann Griffin penname. Book has very faint vertical spine creasing, no spine lean, no cover creases, no soiling or staining to covers, no former owner markings or used bookstore markings inside, no missing pages, no creased page corners, pages are flat and tight, pages are age yellowing, very slight edge wear, just a hint of color rubbing wear to covers (common defect due to the all-green cover). Overall a VG+/FINE- book of this rare 1970s Dean Koontz pen name book. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Dean Koontz 1st printing hardcover/ paperback/magazine appearances up for sale. Ace issued their science fiction doubles from 1953 to 1973 (there were "doubles" beyond 1973, but they bore a single cover which listed both books). The books were issued in 5 letter-prefix series based on original cover price, and 1 numerical series. The Numerical series consisted of both reprints from earlier Ace Doubles, and first editions, and several authors made important appearances here. Notable first editions are by Dean R. Item Description: Charnel House, New York, 2003. Hardcover; 1st Printing. Book Condition: F. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. 1st Edition. SIGNED and numbered by the author on the limitation page, this is #141 of 1,250 signed limited edition copies. Fine as new (unread) book in Fine as new black cloth (matches the cloth on the book) publisher-i ssued slipcase, with no faults or damage to either. Issued without dustjacket. The book has a black cloth spine with gilt printing, a plain matching black cloth back panel, and a black silk ribbon placemarker. The paper over boards front panel has a geometric art deco design in dark gray, green and blue with ivory for an accent. From 1981 through 2001, Koontz used 'dark' poetry quotes, from a supposed mysterious book of this name as epigraphs at the beginnings - and occasionally at part divisions - of many of his books. It snowballed on him and began to take over a large part of his and his assistants' lives, due to all the requests from fans for information about or a copy of the book. In this now-realized book, Koontz starts with 8 tickle-your-funny-bone chapters of musings on the why's and wherefor's of how The Book Of Counted Sorrows came to be imagined, then published, and how the publication will hopefully make his life halfway sane again. Actually, the poems 'are' quite good, though they are 'not' funny, nor intended to be. ; 9-1/4" x 6-1/8"; 71 pages; Signed by Author. Bookseller Inventory # 9330
