Item Description: Random House, 1947. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. This appears to be the ONLY true first printing on the market. The key first issue point is the absence of a price in the diagonal text at the bottom of the back flap of the jacket. See Younger Guide to Seuss First Editions for details. Also, first issue book with fish with open mouth on front cover and seven lines on copyright page. Also, this book is inscribed by Dr. Seuss on the verso of the front free endpaper. The book is very good and the jacket is good only, with tape repair along front edge and most of spine worn off. But still, the very rare correct first issue dust jacket, a stopper for most Seuss collectors. Housed in a custom-made collector's slipcase. Inscribed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 1509091

SEUSS, (AMERICAN 1904-1991) RENDERED IN PEN AND INK A STUNNING DRAWING OF A NIZZARD SIGNED AND DEDICATED TO THE SON OF A LONG TIME FRIEND OF DR. SEUSS/THEODORE GEISEL THE ART IS IN FINE CONDITION, AND WAS LOCATED ON THE PASTE DOWN FROM THE FIRST EDITION BOOK, THE KINGS STILTS SIGNED AND INSCRIBED WITH A DRAWING. On the front pastedown endpaper is a drawing of a Nizzard balancing on its nose a stanchion holding a sign which reads, Extra Nizzard for Woody From Dr. Seuss. Woody Dike is the son of California painter Phil Dike, a longtime friend of Geisel. PERHAPS MORE AMAZING IS THAT IN THE BOOK NIZZARDS WOULD GO AROUND PECKING AT DIKE TREES! Although the artwork survived and was in excellent condition, the book itself was in poor condition. However the purchase will include both the framed art AND the leftover book. PROVENANCE: The piece was purchased from an auction house that was commissioned to sell the artwork/book directly from personal collection of Woodward Dike. Impeccable provenance and personal association! The art was purchased from one of the largest auction house in the US . A copy of the lot description and the original bill of sale will be included the the piece, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art. It is extremely rare to locate a signed piece of artwork to a someone with a close association and friendship with Dr. Seuss This piece is SIGNED by Dr. Seuss within a sign which is balancing on the Nizzards nose, which states ¿Extra Nizzard for Woody from Dr. Seuss¿ The art is in excellent condition, and is dramatically showcased having been newly matted, framed and glazed with archival materials and UV glass. Item Description: Random House, New York, 1957. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Dr. Seuss ( Geisel, Theodore ) (illustrator). 1st Edition. A delightfully inscribed copy of the first edition of The Cat in the Hat. Published by Random House in 1957. First issue; bound in dull illustrated boards, and with book bound in as a single signature. ( Later issues were bound in two and then three signatures, and the boards were glossed ). Lacking the dust jacket. ( which offers the critical clues as to edition / issue state for a good many other Dr. Seuss titles, but not fortunately, this particular title ) Seuss's inscription reads ' For Marie and Bert, Cat Fanciers Both, With Very Best Wishes, Dr. Seuss . A very good copy with panels relatively bright and unworn, but wear to edges of spine and spine ends. Small sections of paper loss to forward edge of both sine ends, and a touch of rubbing to lower tips. First edition, first issue of The Cat in the Hat, by Dr. Seuss, inscribed quite warmly.
