Item Description: Random House, 1957. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Dr. Seuss ( Geisel, Theodore ) (illustrator). 1st Edition. A delightfully inscribed copy of the first edition of The Cat in the Hat. Published by Random House in 1957. First issue; bound in dull illustrated boards, and with book bound in as a single signature. ( Later issues were bound in two and then three signatures, and the boards were glossed ). Lacking the dust jacket. ( which offers the critical clues as to edition / issue state for a good many other Dr. Seuss titles, but not fortunately, this particular title ) Seuss's inscription reads ' For Marie and Bert, Cat Fanciers Both, With Very Best Wishes, Dr. Seuss . A very good copy with panels relatively bright and unworn, but wear to edges of spine and spine ends. Small sections of paper loss to forward edge of both sine ends, and a touch of rubbing to lower tips. First edition, first issue of The Cat in the Hat, by Dr. Seuss, inscribed quite warmly. Item Description: Random House, New York, 1958. First edition. Octavo, original illustrated boards, pictorial endpapers. Inscribed by the author, "For Jason with kindest regards! Dr. Seuss." Fine in a near fine first issue dust jacket. The year after Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, broke new ground in children's books with The Cat in the Hat, he brought back the immediately popular character--with 26 little cats under his red-and-white stovepipe, not to mention the mysterious "Voom"--for a new madcap adventure. The title was the second from Beginner Books, Geisel's own imprint at Random House; in very little time, as that line's identifying logo, "the Cat's image would become synonymous with learning to read" (Cohen, 324). Item Description: Random House, New York, 1954. First edition. Quarto, original boards. Near fine in a very good price-clipped second issue dust jacket. Inscribed by the author on the verso of the front free endpaper, "For Greg Barrett with best wishes Dr. Seuss." Dr. Seuss began work on Horton Hears a Who! in the fall of 1953. The book's main theme, "a person's a person no matter how small", was Geisel's reaction to his visit to Japan, where the importance of the individual was an exciting new concept. Geisel, who had harbored strong anti-Japan sentiments before and during World War II, changed his views dramatically after the war and used this book as an allegory for the American post-war occupation of the country. It was adapted to film in 2008, the cast included Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. Bookseller Inventory # 16025

Signed, and Inscribed with a drawing, First Edition, Eleventh Printing Near fine book, signed on the verso of the end papers with a drawing of Seussian character. This copy has bright boards with strong vibrant colors. The boards are clean with no fading, and no rips. The book has sharp corners and no edgewear but slight rubbing to the bottom edge. The end papers are unusually clean for a children¿s book and have no writing, no bookplates and no inscriptions. The interior pages are clean, bright and flat with no writing, no stains, no handling marks, no bent page, no scribbles, and no foxing. Beautiful clean, bright copy of a children¿s book in hard to find clean/fresh condition. The unrestored original lightly rubbed and nicked first edition dust jacket has strong bright vibrant colors with a few intact tears and a few chips.
