Text in french. Gaston Duchamp was French cubist painter and printmaker. He came from a prosperous and artistic family: Raymond Duchamp-Villon (1876-1918), sculptor, Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), painter, sculptor and author , Suzanne Duchamp-Crotti (1889-1963), painter. He adopted the pseudonym of Jacques Villon to distinguish him from his siblings. After studying law he lived in the outskirts of Paris working as an artist. His isolation from the vibrant art community in Montmartre, together with his modest nature, ensured that he and his artwork remained obscure for a number of years. Among Villon's greatest achievements as a printmaker was his creation of a purely graphic language for cubism which was an accomplishment that no other printmaker, including his fellow cubists Pablo Picasso or Georges Braque, could claim. Language: eng VG : in very good condition. Untrimmed. Pages browning Limited Edition [X] Editions de Sagittaire. Bookseller Inventory # sg016

Item Description: 1966. Book Condition: Poor. 39.25 x 28 inches. "Moderna museet (heart)" by Marcel Duchamp, Unsigned Serigraph printed in 1966. The overall is size of the Serigraph is 39.25 x 28 inches. The condition of this piece has been graded as D: Heavy signs of wear, Torn, Damaged. SOLD AS IS. Price Reflects Condition. Here is some supplemental information about the Serigraph: Original poster created by Marcel Duchamp for a Dada exhibit held at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm Sweden is 1966. The serigraph is not signed and not numbered but we estimate that about 1000 copies were printed for the show. very rare and highly collectible.Dada was born out of negative reaction to the horrors of World War I. This international movement was begun by a group of artists and poets associated with the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich. Dada rejected reason and logic, prizing nonsense, irrationality and intuition. The origin of the name Dada is unclear; some believe that it is a nonsensical word. Others maintain that it originates from the Romanian artists Tristan Tzara and Marcel Janco's frequent use of the words da, da, meaning yes, yes in the Romanian language. Another theory says that the name "Dada" came during a meeting of the group when a paper knife stuck into a French-German dictionary happened to point to 'dada', a French word for 'hobbyhorse'. Item Description: 1949. ». Signé par l'auteur.
