Percival George Elgood (July 30, 1863 - December 20, 1941) was an English-born writer who resided in Egypt. He was educated at Marlborough and Sandhurst, and was then commissioned in the Devonshire Regiment in 1883. He went on to hold important posts in the Ministries of Finance and Interior of the Egyptian Government, before he was recalled to the British Army in Egypt during World War I. For his services he gained four mentions in despatches, receiving the C.M.G., Officier le Grand Honneur, Coronia d Italia, White Eagle of Serbia, and Savour of Greece. He also received third class of the Orders of Osmania, Medjidia and Nile. During the Great War he held various posts with distinction, including Controller-General of Food Supplies of the Egyptian Government and Inspector-General on the Suez Canal. On his retirement from military and administrative work, Lieut.-Col. Elgood continued to live in Egypt with his wife Bonté, herself a distinguished member of the medical profession, and devoted himself to literary work. His published works include Egypt and the Army (1924), The Transit of Egypt (1928), Bonaparte s Adventure in Egypt (1931) and The Ptolemies of Egypt (1938) and the present volume, Egypt, which was first published in 1942 and a new edition containing two additional chapters, Egypt: A Brief History from Ancient to Modern Times, was first published in 1949. Lieut.-Col. Elgood was a longtime member of the Royal Central Asian Society and occasional contributor to their Journal. He passed away at his home at Villa Beata, Heliopolis, Egypt, in December 1941." In quite good condition (light penciling).
