Pages [64] mostly clean, unmarked, binding sound and square, each text block page with a border of flowers, light green, outlined in black; top page edges gilded, somewhat darkened. Illustrated with 8 lovely plates by Alice Barber Stephens, all pages are decorated and very clean. Frontispiece illustration with clean printed tissue guard. "You sat on Mother's lap. The wolf-wind howled at the door, and you shuddered, cuddling down in Mother's arms and the glow. The wilder the wolf-wind howled, the softer was the lamp-light, the redder were the apples on the table, the warmer was the fire.".

Color frontispiece and five b/w illustrations by Alice Barber Stephens. TEG. Bound in pea green cloth with a decorative cover design by Adam Empie with his monogram. (This attribution is based on the monogram list of Charles Gullans.) The front cover is decorated with six stylized white flowers interconnected with light green lines and leaves to form a border around the title and author's name in the center of the cover in gold. A suggestion of this design adorns the spine. This copy has a name in ink on the front free endpaper. The spine is somewhat faded and spine and corner extremities show some wear, but overall the book is in very good condition.
