Paris-Berlin: Izdatel'stvo "Novye pisateli", 1930. Octavo (19 × 14). Original decorative wrappers; 159 pages. Ca. 10 × 10 mm hole to front wrapper (text not affected). Light wear and soiling, two small tears to front wrapper edge, a touch of chipping to spine extremities. First novel by Vasily Yanovsky, a notable Russian writer of the first wave of the emigration, who was active in Paris and part of a generation of writers that came of age during the Civil War and the ensuing years in exile. The subject of Koleso were the homeless children of the Russian Civil War and first years after the Revolution. This copy was handled by the legendary Paris collector and book dealer Andrei Savine, who specialized in Russian emigre publications in the 1970-90s. His price, which corresponds to the record held by the UNC Chapel Hill, is written in pencil on the rear fly leaf: "175 fr, kat. (catalog) 40.? It apparently passed through Savine's shop in the early 1980s.
