Boards have moderate rubbing, bumping and shelfwear, including small (1.5") split at lower front hinge, staining, abrasions along lower edge. Front hinge is started at first signature. Occasional splits at page edges. A few small interior stains. Some pages with folded corners. One page separated loose and with considerable wear at edges, though all text present. Tanning due to age. Pencil handwriting on front and rear endpapers (not much). No date of publication given other than "Entered according to Act of the Parliament of Canada, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven." Stated 70th printing. 384 pp. Cookbook. (CAD) Three signatures to the endpaper, no markings but some pages have faints stains to the margins consistent with an old book, the cover is generally clean ( there are a couple of small spots) and tight but there is rubbing to the corner tips and to the spine extremities, the hinges are fine, generally clean, tight copy, in Very Good (-) condition given its age; no Dj. About 18.5 x 12.5 cm, cloth with design of flowers and patterned background with titles in black , 2 blanks, titlepage, copyright page, contents page, iv-xi [xii blank], first text page (9), 10-384, 2 blanks. Copyright 1877 by Bedford Brothers; this 60th edition dates from the 1880s. There is a year of 1883 to the ad for Cook's Friend Baking Powder on the front pastedown; there are noads on the rear pastedown which is plain. There must be close to 1400 recipes contributed by Canadian women giving an excellent record of culinary favourites dating from the late1870s. Many of the recipes bear the name of the contributor, starting with soups, poultry and game, salads sauces and pickles, pudding, custards and creams, breads and yeast, ices, cakes, etc. Recipes include Amherst Pudding, Mrs. Elias' Chow Chow, Steamed Brown Bread, Fricandeau, etc. (1.7 JM HOQ 102/5 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
