Item Description: [Vienna]: Verlag in der F.C. Ronfiftorial-Ranzlei, ., 1843. [2],62,[1]pp. plus folding table. Original printed blue wrappers. Internally clean and bright. Very good. The sixteenth volume of the report of the Leopoldine Society, established at Vienna in 1829 per order of Leo XII to aid Catholic missions in North America. The society was named after the Empress of Brazil, Leopoldina, a favorite daughter of Francis I. Priests were soon attracted to the society, first amongst these being the eminent Rev. Frederic Baraga, later Bishop of Marquette. Drawing upon funds raised in Europe, the beneficiaries of the society were principally dioceses in the United States, including Cincinnati, St. Louis, Bardstown, Charleston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Mobile, Dubuque, Natchez, Chicago, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Marquette, Galveston, Little Rock, and numerous others.
