Among the notable contributors to The Cricket are Komunykaa, Conoley, and Christian. Komunykaa later went on to receive the Pulitzer Prize, Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, and the Wallace Stevens Award. Conoley is a professor and the Poet-in-Residence at Sonoma State University, and Christian worked for the Federal Writers Project, and is regarded as the unofficial poet laureate of African American writers in New Orleans, and Louisiana.

It is in very good condition, exhibiting a couple of tears to its outward-facing edges, and a few small streaks and smudges. A limited edition of 1,950 copies, of which this is number 121; it is hand-numbered, in black ink, on the colophon page, and the illustrator signs there in black ink as well.
