Translated by Rev. S. Butler (1774-1839) and the Rev. Francis Hodgson (1781-1852) from the French. First edition. 2 volumes. Rebound in-house by Karen Thompson Bullock in Black ostrich print calf backed Dodin marbled paper boards and endpapers with matching marbled paper slip case lined with Japanese tissue paper. 12mo (15cm). pp. 285; 287, [1], 4 Ads. Near Fine/No jacket, as issued/As New. All uncut pages were soaked and restored to acid free white, dried and restitched. The process both strengthens the paper and removes foxing. Volume 1: Cantos I-XIII; Volume 2: Cantos XIII-XIV. Napoleon's younger sibling was just 24 when he conquered the world. Lucien later reigned but this is his one significant written undertaking over many years. A gift fit for a king.
