Condition: VG in VG DJ. Illus (illustrator). 2nd ed 1st ptg. McBride (1867-1962) was the premier art critic of the modern movement as it emerged in 1913. Publisher cover letter laid in. McBride was born to a Quaker family in rural Pennsylvania. As a teenager he earned his living by illustrating seed catalogues. Later he studied at the Art Students League & became an art instructor. At 46 he began writing art criticism & for the rest of his life was a supporter & explicator of modern art.
