Wirt (aka Carolyn Keene/Nancy Drew author) has claimed that the Penny Parker books were her favorites, with their spunky leading character and the newspaper background (Wirt was a journalist most of her life.).
Illustrated by Russell H. Tandy (illustrator). Probably printed between 1943 and 1945. A little light spotting on front cover and a few splashed spots on top edge of text block. Overall a tight, clean very good to fine copy. 8vo. Blue cloth covered boards stamped in orange with silhouette of Nancy Drew with magnifying glass on front cover. Orange silhouette endpapers. Plain paper frontispiece illustration. No other illustrations. Top edge of text block stained orange. Text block is 1" thick. 213 pp. plus 2 pp. publisher's ad for Nancy Drew stories and Jane D. The jacket has 1.5" tear on the front at the spine. the rear of the jacket lists 6 titles in Mildred A. Wirt's Penny Parker series. The book has a Xmas sticker and a stamped local seller's address on the front paste-down. The "This is my Book" ffep is filled in neatly, but the ffep is damaged for 2.5" up the page at the binding. The top and bottom edges have small stains. The rear fixed endpaper is lightly foxed.
