Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Norman Rockwell (illustrator). 1st Edition. The pictures here are pure Norman Rockwell - both the color illustrations (some full page) and the black and white sketches. The text is a little more complicated. Originally written by Mr Norman as an idea and an outline, the story was expanded and re-written by Mrs Norman - Molly - and an abridged version of that was published in McCall's Magazine in 1967. This first book edition publishes Molly's full work-up of Norman's outline. There was another edition, published in 1994 to mark the 100th anniversary of Norman's birth, which went back to Norman's original outline, but this Funk & Wagnalls version is the one to go for! This is a fine copy of the first edition but in a good only, price-clipped dust jacket, with wear and nicks to edges and folds, deep chipping to base of spine, general rubbing and browning, and with a repaired tear that goes all the way diagonally across the rear panel. The best that can be said of it is that it is virtually complete and the illustration on front panel is pretty much unaffected. But it does seem strange that a fine book is covered by a cruddy jacket!.
