Seller: Singularity Rare & Fine, Baldwinsville, NY, U.S.A.
Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin (illustrator). 1st Edition. Los Angeles: Roy Squires, 1952. Volume 5, No. 5, the January, 1952 issue of what had been the Fantasy Advertiser fanzine, titles now, for the first time in this issue, Science Fiction Advertiser. Cover by Morris Scott Dollens, rear cover features Neil Austin channeling Picasso (see scans). Both have illustrations within, as well. Octavo, stapled wraps, 33 numbered pages. Near Fine copy, with a small cut at spine top (see scans). Otherwise a high grade, very sharp, undamaged copy. Essentially, the premier issue under the Science Fiction Advertiser name. Though its content of ads, book lists, book reviews, plus some commentary by "the editor", that being Roy Squires at this time, remained unchanged. Reviews and similar commentary on sci-fi within this issue are by Darrell C. Richardson; Clyde Beck; Carolyn Gaybard; Roger Scott, R.G. Medhurst, and the editor; some of the books they review are Arthur Louis Joquel III's "The Challenge of Space", Raymond J. Healy's "New Tales of Space and Time", Bleiler & Dikty's "The Best Science Fiction Stories: 1951", Stanton A. Coblentz's "After 12,000 Years", as well as Coblentz's "When the Birds Fly South", Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sands of Mars", and Sam Moskowitz's "The Immortal Storm". Many more titles are either briefly mentioned, advertised, or discussed. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi, replete with ads, sale and auction notifications, publications notices, and more - all focused on science fiction, fantasy and horror, by intent, but mostly on Science Fiction by execution at this time. L-pr1.

Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin (illustrator). 1st Edition. Glendale, CA: (Science-Fiction Advertiser), 1952. Volume V, No. 5, the January, 1952 issue of Science-Fiction Advertiser; this is the new name and (somewhat) new, longer form of the earlier incarnation, Fantasy Advertiser fanzine. Roy Squires had taken over editing from Norman "Gus" Wilmorth by this time, and wasn't far from bringing it into its heyday. Though longer and a bit richer, at this time the fanzine was still focused almost entirely on book reviews and ads, and apart from Morris Scott Dollens carried little in the way of interior art and virtually no fiction.yet. Even the reviews, essays and articles gave precious little credit to the writers, who were often the editor or his assistants. None of that would last.Cover is by Dollens, with another inside by him, and the back cover is by Neil Austin. Both would do much more work for the fanzine later. Octavo, stapled wraps, 33 numbered pages. Near Fine copy, with only the inevitable modest toning to the paper and a tiny closed tear at rear cover top. See scans. High grade. Very sharp, undamaged copy. An early example of the uniquely American sci-fi / fantasy fanzine genre. One or two interesting articles per issue, and some illustrations, but still, in 1952, largely book reviews, ads and a bit of opinion. See scan of contents page for this issue's offerings. Nicely executed book reviews. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi with all its special genres; replete with the detailed trappings of that world - Science fiction, fantasy and horror, of course. But mostly the sci-fi. Very scarce under this name, the second of three. For the collector. L-pr2.
