Scott Williams. George Wharton James (1858-1923) was an English-American author, journalist, photographer, editor, and lecturer. He specialized in writing about California and the American Southwest. Harold A. Taylor (1878-1960) was an English-American photographer. From 1902-1907, Taylor specialized in photographing Yosemite where he operated his Studio of Three Arrows. He later moved to Coronado, California in 1912. From 1939-1940, Taylor had a photography studio at the Coronado Hotel. Taylor retired in the El Cajon and La Mesa area in Southern California. George Wharton James El Tovar April 30, 1920". George Wharton James (1858 - 1923) was an American popular lecturer, photographer, journalist and editor. Born in Lincolnshire, England, he emigrated to the United States as a young man after being ordained as a Methodist minister. He served in parishes in Nevada and Southern California, gradually beginning his journalism and writing career. An editor of two magazines, he also wrote more than 40 books and many articles and pamphlets on California and the American Southwest. Gayle Allen Campbell was the wife of Thomas Edward Campbell (January 18, 1878 March 1, 1944), who was the second governor of the state of Arizona. He was the first Republican and first native-born governor elected after Arizona achieved statehood in 1912. This copy bound in 3/4 leather by John Grabau, with 5 raised spine ribs which divide spine into 6 edge ruled panels. Title & author in two panels, "1913" at bottom. Other 4 panels with stem and floral decoration; all letters & decor in gilt. Grabau started his binding career with Roycroft under Louis Kinder and formed his own bindery in 1905. Signed by Author.
