plus 2 lvs. of green rice paper with illustrated advts., plus Errata slip inserted (N.B.), loose as issued, plus 1 bussines card from "Antonio Rodriguez Morey. Director del Museo Nacional", loose as issued, b/w pict. wrps. The central purpose of this publication was clearly reflected in its initial number: "to improve and develop the cultivation of Fine Arts in Cuba, both in its practical and in the theoretical sense" and, like the institution that governed it, kept in its various pages devoted to painting, music, theater, literature and history. It had special significance that dedicated to the bibliographic comments, which was written at different times by Enrique García Cabrera, Eduardo Sánchez de Fuentes, Salvador Salazar, Emeterio Santovenia and Marinello himself. Other collaborators of the magazine were Jorge Mañach, Enrique José Varona, Guillermo Martínez Márquez and the brothers Néstor and Miguel Ángel Carbonell. Apparently, the last published copy corresponded to April 1928. The character of this magazine, established in the purpose of disseminating the Fine Arts, coincides with the cultural ferment begun in the aforementioned year of 1923, when the Cuban intellectual youth was looking for new directions to channel their concerns. Names like those of Marinello and Mañach, for example, are among those associated with those who began to look at art from new perspectives, and although the Gaceta de Bellas Artes can not be considered a spokesperson for the Cuban artistic avant-garde, as soon as would be, for example, the "gg, organ par excellence " of these concerns, and whose editorial board belonged the two intellectuals mentioned, if it can be estimated as the beginning of a new artistic feeling, manifested, for example, in the texts. Portrait in front cover was by noted portrait painter Esteban Valderrama y Peña (Matanzas, Cuba1892 - 1964). CONTENTS: Cubierta.
