Oblong quarto, silver boards (hardcover), red letters, 392 pp. Very Good+, with small bookplate to ffep., inked title to lower page edges. From Preface: It is a wonder that the history of the legendary Stutz has heretofore appeared only in scattered articles and in a small, out-of-print volume by Mark Howell that focused on its racing. Although informative, that literature does not provide a unified and comprehensive account of the fascinating story of the marque and of the companies and people who created it. It is that void that The Stutz Club set to fill in this book. Many were skptical that it could be done. After all, Stutz had been out of business for more than half a century, its files and records were destroyed or scattered, and theer were too many ramifications to be collected in one place. But we felt that the attempt had to be made before the record faded with time. For any one person to do this would have been an enormous, and perhaps impossible, task. Fortunately, The Stutz Club was able to enlist the talents of a number of its members who had the expertise, resources, and resolve to accomplish it. I had the privilege of coordinating their work, but make no mistake about it: the book is a Club product. In addition to the seventeen individuals whose contributions are listed in the Table of Contents, many others helped by providing suggestions, information, literature, or illustrations. Automotive, Automobiles, Antiques & Collectibles, Cars, American Manufacturing. axsli.
