British book club edition. 119 pages. Hardcover: H 22cm x L 15.5cm. Dust jacket features different artwork than the iconic American edition issued by Scribner's and the British first issued by Jonathan Cape; front panel image of man in boat against the ocean and sky in background all in shades of green, white, and yellowish-orange; at bottom of front flap is statement "Club Edition 5/- For World Books Members Only" so presumably a book club reprint. Dj rubbed and soiled with chipping and tears; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Aquamarine cloth; bright silver stamped marlin and ocean vignette upon front board; bright maroon and silver stamping to spine; spine ends and board corners worn. Foxing to leaping marlin illustrated endpapers; patch of peeling at front free endpaper's top right from removal of past bookseller's sticker; interior pages are otherwise mostly clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a good+ dust jacket. Inset amongst text (although a few are full page) are 34 b/w illustrations by Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe and Raymond Sheppard which gives this version the distinction of being the first illustrated edition of the Hemingway's classic novel - Scribner's utilized the Tunnicliffe and Sheppard illustrations for their own illustrated edition in 1960. {LitShelf_#16}.
