Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Rhead, Louis (illustrator). 1st Edition. Original publisher's green cloth binding with gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Gilt illustration of a trout on the front cover. Top edge gilt. 6 1/4" x 8 1/2." 184 pages, complete. Seventeen plates and additional illustrations in black and white, color, and halftone, complete. A tipped-in bookplate on the front pastedown and a signature in black ink on the front free endpaper is from a former owner, Hugh Williamson Rowan. There is another former owner's signature, in blue ink, on the front free endpaper from Harry A. McGraw. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Severe offsetting on Page 51 and the blank page facing it; text and image are still readable. Slight age toning to the pages. Some wear to the corners, edges, and head and tail of spine. A few wrinkles on the first few pages. A Very Good copy. Excerpt from the Preface: "The Editor originally intended to issue a series of volumes under the title of 'A Library of Rod and Gun,' and still may do so should a kindly reception be given this volume by lovers of nature and angling. The first object of this work is to supply general information on the Salvelinius fontinalis.".

Significant closed tear to head of front wrap. Discolouration to rear wrap. Small loss of paper to back strip tail, with horizontal closed tear to centre of back strip. Small loss to head of rear wrap. Front hinge lightly strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to title page, with pages otherwise clean and bright. Significant closed tears to one tissue guard. Very Good. book.
