In Pierrat, who illustrates the frontis/title spread of the first volume on page 26. Possibly a unique copy, from an ultra clan- destine e?dition de te?te, a special commis- sion or grangerised, as the ten colour plates are not called for in Dutel and ab- sent in its unsophisticated original state: published as two separate volumes with wrappers (below). Provenance: from the collections of Jean- Pierre Faur and Emmanuel Pierrat. A very anticlerical and anonymous, clandestinely published, voyeuristic erotic novel told from the viewpoint of a female ? flea', that was originally published in 1887 in the UK by Edward Avery as ? The Autobiography of a Flea' . Pierrat states that it was first published in the late nineteenth century in French as ?Souvenirs d'une Insecte' . The main protagonist ?Bella' was described by Perceau as '.une petite coquine que son chaud tempe?rament ame?ne, sans difficulte?, a? satisfaire les de?sirs les plus bizarres et les plus lubriques caprices de son confesseur ' (93-A). [ '. a little hussy whose warm temperament leads, without difficulty, to her satisfying the most bizarre desires and the most lewd whims of her confessor' ]. The plates are quite obscene with a masturbation scene and much coupling, spanking etc between Bella and Charly, Bella and priests and Bella and a female friend. The book was adapted into a film which was probably the first porno directed by a woman and that starred the enormously over-en- dowed John Holmes. Scheiner identified the author as a London lawyer. Phryne? was a famous hetaira, the text within a text is continuous from page 117 of the second vol- ume. 233736.
