[9]; una gora più estesa solo al centro della carta [5/6]). -- Le due correzioni manoscritte a sanare piccoli errori al "truciolo" di Camillo Sbarbaro sono da considerarsi assai probabilmente autografe del poeta, data la provenienza del fascicolo dalle carte del poeta ligure Angelo Barile, al quale sicuramente poté arrivar per esclusivo tramite dell amico di infanzia Sbarbaro. Raro terzo numero della rivista dadaista che aveva esordito l anno precedente con due fascicoli esemplati sulla grafica e il formato del «Cabaret Voltaire». Con il terzo numero il primo la cui composizione è affidata interamente all estro di Tristan Tzara, qualificato come direttore si realizza la rivoluzione tipografica del Dada, esaltata dal formato grande del numero: «"Cabaret Voltaire" e i primi due numeri di "Dada" (luglio 1917; dicembre 1917) si presentano con una veste ordinata, piuttosto convenzionale dal punto di vista dell impaginazione. Ma nel terzo numero (dicembre 1918) cambiano la grafica e il formato: il titolo in rosso a caratteri cubitali ricorda l intestazione di "Lacerba" e la varietà dei caratteri, i testi composti non solo in senso orizzontale ma anche verticalmente, sono tutti richiami alla lezione della tipografia futurista» (Salaris, Futurismi nel mondo, p. 1145). -- «While "Dada" nos. 1 and 2 are still, like "Cabaret Voltaire", compraratively conventional in appearance [ ] the organised chaos that the movement had become under Tzara s inspired direction is graphically expressed in "Dada" no. 3, whose whole orientation is suddenly anarchist. Exceptionally Rare Complete with Forty-Eight Hand Colored Engravings Depicting the Street Vendors of Leipzig in the Late Eighteenth Century RICHTER, Johann Salomo. Leipziger National Trachten. Forty-eight fine hand colored engraved plates printed on "Dutch paper" Bound ca. 1930 in full red morocco, covers with single line border, spine with five raised bands, decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, edges stained red. Some occasional very light spots, still a very fine copy of this exceptionally rare book. The National Costumes of Leizig contains forty-eight beautifully hand colored engravings depicting street vendors of foods including butter, cheese, fruit, vegetables, fish, & juice seltzer water; household items including brooms, porcelain, sieves & mousetraps; consumer goods including coal, sawdust & flints; printed works including calendars, religious pamphlets, decorative graphics & views; peddlers of various services and any more, all based on original models from the streets of Leipzig. "Salomon Richter has the gift of unsentimentally depicting the hard labor and the poverty, while renouncing the picturesque effect" (Maurenbrecher I, p. 76; citing this copy in the E. Hauswedell collection sale catalog (item 34). Pltes 1-36 first appeared in 1791 as part 5 of Richter's Unterweisung für Anfänger beyderley Geschlechts im Zeichnen, which was also published by J.B. Klein. The present example is numbered 1 thru 48 - they are all inscribed with a short printed description, publisher's note and artist's signature on plates 1 thru 37. Plates 38 thru 48 have only the descriptive phrase on the plate except for plate 48 which also has the artist's signature. Plates 1, 13, 25 , have the heading title "Leipziger National Trachten", "Leipziger National Trachten. 2te Liefrung" & "Leipziger National Trachten. 3te Liefrung" respectively. OCLC & KVK locate just one complete copy (with 48 plates) in libraries and institutions worldwide: Harvard University (MA, US). Colas and Hiler knew only of the first two series of 24 plates. Lipperheide had the three series of 36 plates. The final section with plates 37 thru 48 appears to be unknown to the relevant bibliographers, with the exception of Thieme-Becker. These 12 plates are not mentioned in the detailed description of the series by G. Wustmann in Leipziger Ausrufer vor hundert Jahren. Provenance: Presumably the copy from the 1928 catalog of K.W. Er war als Arzt und Geburtshelfer sehr geschätzt und wurde auch an den kaiserlichen Hof gezogen, so zur Entbindung der Kaiserin Alexandra Feodorowna, der Gemahlin Nicolais am 17. April 1818, als der nachmalige Kaiser Alexander II. das Licht der Welt erblickte. Im vorliegendem Werk, "legt R. über seine Praxis und Amtsführung Rechenschaft ab und theilt besonders schätzbare Erfahrungen über die Wendung und den Gebrauch der Zange mit. Trotz dieser beiden, für ihre Zeit entschieden hervorragenden geburtshülflichen Bücher, trotzdem, daß ein Instrument Hysteromochlion zur Aufrichtung des schwangeren Uterus von R. erfunden worden ist, trotz der unzweifelhaften Verdienste um Geburtshülfe und Hebammenwesen in Rußland, dürfte Richter's Name den heutigen Geburtshelfern kaum bekannt sein - er gehört der Geschichte an" (ADB). Overall a Very Good set spanning over 40 years of early baseball history. Many volumes here were edited by Henry Chadwick, considered by many to be the "Father of Baseball," a pioneer of sports journalism credited with creating box scores as well as batting and earned run averages. Chadwick helped popularize the game through the baseball guides, "The Beadle Dime Base-Ball Player" being the earliest. Die Schrift enthält das hochgestimmte Gespräch über die Unsterblichkeit, ergänzt um einen satirischen Anhang, in dem Jean Paul darauf verfiel, einen Bildkommentar zu den einfachen Holzschnitten des Bayreuther Katechismus in der Art Lichtenbergs zu schreiben. Dieses Exemplar hat etwas stärkere Gebrauchsspuren, insbesondere ist der Einband deutlich verzogen, die Deckel haben Knickspuren und die Seiten unten im Bund einen schwachen kleinen Wasserrand außerhalb des Textes. Trotz dieser Gebrauchsspuren handelt es sich um ein insgesamt noch ordentliches, weitgehend fleckenfreies und durch den Brief getrüffeltes Exemplar. Sie werden von einem erläuternden Text in deutscher Sprache von Johann Gottfried Richter und der französischen Übersetzung auf der Rückseite von P. Hacault begleitet. Der Maler und Zeichner Johann Geissler ging 1790 nach Russland, um dort Zeichenunterricht zu erteilen. In den Jahren 1793 und 1794 begleitete er den Naturforscher Peter Simon Pallas auf seiner zweiten wissenschaftlichen Expedition nach Südrussland und verbrachte dann einige Jahre mit dem Naturforscher auf der Krim. Nach seiner Rückkehr in seine Heimatstadt Leipzig veröffentlichte er mehrere Bücher über Russland, die mit Zeichnungen illustriert waren, die er dort angefertigt hatte. Der Text wurde von Johann Gottfried Richter verfasst, ebenfalls gebürtiger Leipziger, der 16 Jahre lang als Tutor in Moskau tätig war. In seinen Kommentaren zeigt er eine große Kenntnis der Sitten und Gebräuche sowie eine große Zärtlichkeit gegenüber dem russischen Volk. Apparently the southernmost printing of any part of the bible. Johann August Richter (1814-93), born at Luppa, Germany, arrived in Sydney in 1844. On 29 July 1843 Richter obtained permission from the Saxon authorities to travel to Australia as a ?Hilfsmissionar? or auxiliary missionary. He and his family arrived in Sydney with a Gossner Mission Society party to Christianise and civilise Aborigines. The Gossner Mission Society had been established in Berlin in 1836 by Pastor Gossner. Richter?s group, which included Wilhelm Gehricke, Carl Gerler and Johann Hermann, remained in Sydney for several months while they debated whether to move to the Gossner German Mission Station established in 1838 at Zion?s Hill at Moreton Bay, or travel to New Caledonia. They finally decided to settle at Moreton Bay and establish a second station at Humpybong, although the number of Aborigines in the Moreton Bay area had by then rapidly declined and only 200 of the original 700 remained. Richter?s group arrived at Humpy Bong in about June 1844, but soon decided to leave, following a frightening encounter with some of the Aborigines there. The family returned to Sydney. Soon after Richter leased and worked a windmill owned by Thomas Holt. On 3 March 1845, he purchased the Collingwood Steam Flour Mill Richter?s Collingwood Mill stood adjacent to Thomas Holt?s home Sophienberg. Both Holt, a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, and Richter were friends of Ludwig Leichhardt the German explorer, who was godfather to Holt?s son Frederick, born in 1846. Leichhardt, like Richter, had Wendish origins, born in Lower Lusatia to a Wendish mother, Sophie Straelow. In 1847, Leichhardt was a guest of the Richter family for over a week. Leichhardt later disappeared without trace in 1848 during his second attempt to cross the Australian continent from east to west. In 1854 Richter and his eldest son Ernst travelled on foot to the Victorian goldfields, where they stayed several months. In early 1863, after news of the discovery of gold at Dunstan and Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown reached Sydney, Richter moved the family to New Zealand. Maria Richter died at Waikiwi on 24 January 1888 aged 74. Richter died at Waikiwi on 16 October 1893 aged 79. Rare! A nice association copy of this classic baseball text Inscribed by Richter: "To Captain J. T. Newman, one of the 'Old Guard,' who was a factor in baseball from the beginning of it organization. With the compliments of the Author, Francis C. Richter. Philadelphia, Pa. March 7, 1914." As a writer, Richter was an influent in the early development of the game. Beginning with the *Philadelphia Day* in 1872, then the *Sunday World* and *Public Ledger*, he was the first to set up a separate sports department for any newspaper. Richter was instrumental in the formation of the original American Association in 1882 and helped to place the Philadelphia Athletics in it. The next year he helped to organize the Phillies in the National League and started *Sporting Life*, a weekly newspaper, which became a force in baseball. In 1907 he was offered the presidency of the National League but turned it down. He edited the *Reach Guide* from its inception in 1901 to the 1926 volume, which he completed days before his death.
