Item Description: 1936. Couverture rigide. Book Condition: Très bon. Salvador DALI (1904.1989) Manuscrit autographe signé – « Honeur a l’obget ! » Quatre pages in-folio. Slnd (Printemps 1936). Salvador Dali. ». Signé par l'auteur. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-19318593431

Item Description: New York: Maecenas Press - Random House, 1969, 1969. Folio. Publisher's solander box of brown straight-grain morocco by Cartonnages Adine (Paris), leather-and-horn ties, gilt lettered spine, black silk portfolios for letterpress and illustrations, lettered in gilt on front covers. With all the original packaging material, including the shipping box. An excellent copy. 12 colour heliogravures and a four-colour etched frontispiece on Rives paper; together with a second suite of 12 plates on Japon Nacre paper. Title page, divisional titles and initial letters printed in bisque. First and limited Dalí edition, number XII of 200 copies, signed by Dali at the foot of the frontispiece and on the title page. "The artist Salvador Dalí, famous for his surreal images of melting clocks and barren landscapes, at first glance might not seem to have much in common with a retiring Victorian English don who wrote children's books. But actually, Dalí and Carroll had much in common: both men were ardent explorers of dreams and the imagination, attempting in their art to show the fertile pathways to the unconscious. This artistic temperament might explain why, in his sixties, Dalí created twelve surreal illustrations - one for each chapter - for Alice in Wonderland. Because he required a rich, lush palette for his painted drawings, Dalí turned to the oldest process for reproducing photographic images for printing: heliogravure. Similar to engraving, the method is time consuming and costly. Each heliogravure is printed by hand and considered an original" (Catherine Nichols, Alice's Wonderland: a Visual Journey through Lewis Carroll's Mad, Mad World, 2014, p. 28). One of the most extraordinary and beautiful editions of Alice. Bookseller Inventory # 111778

Item Description: Editions Surréalistes, Chez José Corti., Paris., 1930. 4to. (235 x 187 mm). [23 unnumbered leaves including inserted leaf on stub with Dali's engraving]. Half-title, leaf with original engraving by Dalí as frontispiece verso, printed title with 'Du Même Auteur' verso, leaf with quotation by Achim d'Arnim, 15 leaves with Char's text (including blank leaf), leaf with justification recto, leaf with achevé d'imprimer recto; text and illustration on pink, blue or green sheets as issued. Original publisher's salmon printed wrappers with titles to front cover and spine in black. From the edition limited to 215 numbered copies, with this one of 15 on Ingres vert, rose et bleu signed by Char in rose ink to the justification and with Dali's frontispiece engraving; only the first 30 copies were issued with the engraving by Dali. Also included are the single sheet of magenta paper (216 x 166 mm), the 'Prière d'insérer' announcing the work and the single sheet of white paper (210 x 145 mm) with prospectus recto and 'Du Même Auteur' verso. [Michler-Löpsinger 3; Field 30-1; see De Parallèlement à Chanson Complète, pp. 281 - 284]. Bookseller Inventory # 45330

Item Description: E.P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1969. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. Floridly SIGNED with an ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION by Salvador Dali in blue felt-tip ink on the spread encompassing the first two blank pages (verso of ffep & recto of first blank). Full double-page signature, with the huge "D" in Dali capped by a drawing of a halo crown adorned with a cross on top. Signed with his surname only, Dali has added the date "1971" below. The signature is bold & clear, in fine condition, with a couple of tiny brushes to the enormous capital "D". Provenance includes auction record, with pre-certified PSA/DNA & auction house COA. First Edition, stated. Translated from the French by Joachim Neugroschel. Contains ten conversations with Dali, plus an essay by Dali titled The Conquest of the Irrational. Front cover blurb: "A revealing dialogue with a modern master". From inner flap of dustjacket (in part): "The antic genius of 'the divine Dali' has never been better displayed than in these sprightly conversations with his old friend, Alain Bosquet, a novelist, poet, and critic. The setting for all ten conversations is Dali's luxurious Paris apartment. Everything is grist for the talk, and the subjects change rapidly as the obiter dicta fall: politics and painting, France and the USA, Luis Bunel, Popes John and Paul, Sophia Loren. Bosquet especially pursues Dali's relationship to Spain and France, to Catholicism, and to the history of Surrealism. There are hilarities here and opinions quotable by the page. However, running throughout this dazzling talk are the expectably shrewd and knowing observations on the history and craft of painting, both Dali's and that of past and present masters. Rounding out the ten conversations is a new translation of Dali's complete essay 'The Conquest of the Irrational', a tour de force on the place of Surrealism in twentieth-century culture. This is a primary document of the movement, in which Dali analyzes the significance of the unconscious forces of modern art over against modern science and technology". The original French edition, titled Entretiens avec Salvador Dali, was first published in 1966 by Pierre Belfond. This is the First American Edition, published 1969 by E.P. Dutton. Printed in the USA. Bound in original pale blue boards backed by yellow cloth spine with black lettering, in publisher's unclipped pictorial dustjacket (retaining original published price of $3.95 on inner front flap). A very nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. The dustjacket is now protected in a removable clear Bro-dart cover. 123pp. SIGNED COPY with an ORIGINAL DRAWING by the famed Spanish Surrealist. RARE & UNIQUE. Size: 21 x 14cm. Signed. Bookseller Inventory # 005000
