Book
Soft cover. Condition: VG. 53pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 2 small portraits of the subjects, salvaged from damaged issues of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, Volume XLV, Nos. 1, 3, 5, 6, November, 1892, and January / March / May, 1893, with no missing segments. Headings include The Gloomy Years of the War, The End of the War, and Relations of Grant and Sherman After the War. Presumably a pre-publication appearance of some of the letters; Scribner's would publish the book, The Sherman Letters: Correspondence Between General Sherman And Senator Sherman, in 1894. From the introduction, "In publishing these letters, my chief desire has been to let them speak for themselves, and to put them in such for that they may easily be understood. I feel sure that they will command general interest, and be accorded that ready sympathy which was so freely and lovingly expressed at the time of General Sherman's Death." Housed in protective mylar report cover.
