First Edition
First edition. Boards with dust jacket. Boards have a full-color front-to-back wraparound illustration which is repeated on the dust jacket. Book a little leaning, otherwise near fine copy in near fine dust jacket, in particularly nice condition as the binding is very fragile. A parody of the 1930s bestselling swashbuckler Anthony Adverse by Hervey Allen (William Hervey Allen, Jr.). There is a funny, obviously completely fictitious revelation of Hardly Alum's "true" identity on the back inside flap of the dust jacket. New York Public Library catalogue identifies the author as Edward Dean Sullivan. Sullivan wrote a number of books published by the Vanguard Press on Chicago crime and other topics. Adolf Dehn, here doing straightforward comic illustration, became a member of the American Abstract Artists.
