Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Text in English. 202 pp. Bumped corners and minor wear. No markings. In 2009 a two day conference was arranged by the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm and the Coin Cabinet at the National Museum in Helsinki. Invited speakers discussed financial and numismatic aspects of the Finnish War and the Napoleonic wars in northern Europe. The aim of the conference was to draw attention to the historical events and their economic consequences. Some of the key questions were: What actions did the governments take to regulate the economy? How did the public relate to the changing economic situation and what opportunities did they have to influence it? How were the national and regional identities expressed through material culture, i.e. coins, banknotes and medals?.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 2nd Edition. Text in English. 200 pp. In a slipcase. Slight wear to the slipcase. Finland developed its own monetary system during the nineteenth century when the country was an autonomous Grand Duchy under Russia. The earliest Finnish banknotes were mostly printed abroad - in St Petersburg, Berlin, Copenhagen, and London - but subsequently Finland has attained a high level of expertise in security printing. There have also been remarkable banknote designers, such as the architect Eliel Saarinen (1873-1950). Among the more notable Finnish coins is the first modern Olympic commemorative, struck for the 1952 summer games in Helsinki. This book presents the coins and banknotes issued since the founding of the Bank of Finland in 1811, but it also describes the earlier monetary history of the country as well as the first coins and banknotes in euro denominations.
