First Edition
Hardback. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Volk, Gordon. The Sea Cave. London: Skeffington & Son, Ltd., [1929]. First edition. Octavo, pp. [1-6] 7-256. Original red cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black. Illustrated with a hand-drawn map opposite the title page. The cloth is unevenly faded to pink, otherwise a decent copy. With a pictorial dust jacket from a copy of a later printing ("26th thousand," according to rear panel of dj). The jacket is edge-worn and darkened but substantially complete. #567. $45. Low-grade commercial adventure fiction. The story centers on a cave near a sea-shore, part of which is submerged under water. A small German submarine had entered it during World War I, and its captain was imprisoned. Captures and escapes, secrets and lies, confessions and betrayals. Some bits of rather impressive imagery partially redeem an otherwise formulaic tale.
