A dust wrapper is not present. Laid in is a cutting from the Daily Telegraph Saturday August 13 1977 about Gilbert White by J.H.B. They are significant for the scientific methods employed - relying on observation as opposed to folk wisdom - and as a close study of a small area, with some new insights into animal behaviour and even the weather. Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. and Richard Kearton (Photography) (illustrator). First Thus. In all a nice presentable clean copy of this scarce edition of the classic title. The green cloth boards look clean, although the title lettering on the spine is faded so as to be quite faint and the gilt motif on the front cover is also somewhat faded, although less so. There is a little fraying and wear to the cloth at the foot of the spine and the fore edge corners are knocked, more especially at the top corner of the front board. None of this would be described as in any way severe. The front and back free end papers are quite browned and there is one neat owner inscription on the front one. There is sporadic mild to moderate foxing here and there throughout, more so to the early pages and the page blcok edge is a little toned looking. Other than these few flaws, which must be described here in this description in the interest of clarity and fairness, the book is very sound and clean throughout.
