Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Minus. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Susan Jeschke; Jacket Design by Jack Jaget (illustrator). 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. Terrific black-and-white illustrations. This may be the only first edition for sale on Internet. I see a few later printings that are for sale. This book also has its dust jacket and there are only a few books with their dust jackets for sale on the Internet. You can see the lavender-colored covers in the last few photos. They have color fading/loss over parts of their margins, particularly the front cover and the spine. The design on the front cover and the lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is a little wrinkling at the top edge of the spine. I don't think there is any rubbing on the cover edges, but there is more of this color fading/loss. The corners are also free of rubbing. The thin spine is slanted forward but the front and rear covers are perfectly aligned, and the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. Off the bottom edge of the front flap of the dust jacket is printed 'A Holt Reinforced Edition.' The interior of the book is in perfect condition. The pages are perfectly clean. I'm not seeing any soiling on any of them. There is a light crease just off the top corner of a number of early pages, very small, not conspicuous. There are no placeholder creases. There are no markings anywhere in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The jacket is in decent condition. I rated it only Good mostly because of the small loss at the top edge of the spine. There are also two pieces of scotch tape on the inside of the jacket. You won't see them because the jacket will be fitted with a protective cover. There are two pinprick-sized losses at and near to the top edge of the front cover. There is also a tiny tear off the top edge and two small ones off the front bottom edge. There is a mostly closed tear on the rear cover just adjacent to the spine. I don't see any tears off the rear covers top or bottom edges. The flaps are in very decent condition, very clean, just a little bit of crinkling at their top edges. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. As mentioned, the jacket will be fitted with a large protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'Zora is a fortune-teller. Mike is her magic cat. One day a baby girl with a dragon's tail is left at Zora's doorstep. Although Zora is in the business of solving people's problems, she cannot solve one of her own: what to do with the baby with the dragon's tail? At the advice of Zora's friend, Lucia, who was also in the fortune-telling business, Zora and Mike try to make Firerose, the little girl, like her special adornment. They plaster the walls with pictures of lizards and kangaroos, devils and dragons, and other tailed creatures, and soon Firerose comes to admire her tail, and even learns to enjoy it. However, when Firerose turns five years old and must start school, the teacher is not so admiring. 'This is a school for little children, not uh him, little dragons,' he tells them. And so, at Lucia's advice, Firerose and Zora set out for Dragon City in the hopes of finding a solution to this new problem. Children and grown-ups alike will find Firerose and her adopted family endearing-- even the dragons are lovable-- and will delight in the warmth and humor of this antic gray comedy.' The author states that 'relationships and bizarre characters are what fascinates me most.' This is the first book she is both written and illustrated.
