Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1st printing of the first Canadian hardcover edition of the author's third book, a story collection. Laid-in is a loose 4 x 3" bookplate SIGNED by Munro. The book is bound in kelly green cloth. It is square and tight with sharp corners and no markings by a previous owner. The heel of the book's spine has softened, and there is a short tear in the cloth, at that point. Minor tanning of the page edges. In the context of the first edition of this book, the jacket on this example is well-preserved. The creme-colored jacket shows typical tanning, which is uniform except on the spine, which has darkened. The artwork on the front cover and the author's photograph on the back panel are bright. There is a 1-inch closed tear in the top edge of the jacket with an associated crease. There are no losses. There is wear to the top edge of the jacket at the crown of the spine and the hinges. The bottom edge of the jacket shows less wear, at the heel of the spine and the back hinge. The jacket is not priced, as issued. The signed bookplate, which is not affixed to a page, is made with an adhesive on the reverse side which is activated with moisture. Note to Collectors: maximize the value of a signed bookplate by leaving it loosely inserted in the book so that you or a subsequent owner remain free to transfer it to another book. One of Canada's most highly-decorated writers, Munro was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013 and cited as "a master of the contemporary short story." She won the Man Booker International Prize in 2009. She has won Canada's Giller Prize twice and the Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction three times: Dance of the Happy Shades (1968), Who Do You Think You Are? (1978) and The Progress of Love (1986). Beginning in the 1960s, her stories were published regularly in The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly and The Paris Review. Never an avid signer, when Munro completed the publicity tour for The Love of A Good Woman in 1998, she announced that she would no longer make public appearances to autograph books. Canadian orders will be charged GST. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Munro's second collection of short stories with intriguing provenance. First edition [McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Toronto, 1974]. Inscribed to book collector Rolland Comstock (since murdered - Comstock was found shot in his house in 2007 amongst his 50,000 volume collection. No-one was ever charged with his murder although his daughter accused her mother, Alberta [the Comstocks had acrimoniously split a couple years earlier and were embroiled in a financial dispute at the time of his murder], and took her to civil court. Alberta Comstock died in 2013.) With additional signed thank you card from Munro in fine condition & with environmental message underlined. Papered boards; a little bumped at extremities; slightly foxed; in the very good dustjacket; extremities bumped & slightly chipped; 15mm tear at top of spine; tape mark inside; laminate slightly wrinkled over title; an excellent copy overall. A unique copy of this short story collection from a true master. Signed by Author(s).
