Item Description: Shroff Publishers/Pragmatic Bookshelf, 2006. Softcover. Book Condition: New. . (illustrator). 18 x 23 cm. This book is a recipe-based approach to using the CVS Version Control system that will get you up and running quickly--and correctly. All projects need version control: it`s a foundational piece of any project`s infrastructure. Yet half of all project teams in the U.S. don`t use any version control at all. Many others don`t use it well, and end up experiencing time-consuming problems. Version Control, done well, is your "undo" button for the project: nothing is final, and mistakes are easily rolled back. With version control, you`ll never again lose a good idea because someone overwrote your file edits. You can always find out easily who made what changes to the source code--and why. Version control is a project-wide time machine. Dial in a date and see exactly what the entire project looked like yesterday, last Tuesday, or even last year. This book describes a practical, easy-to-follow way of using CVS, the most commonly used version control system in the world (and it`s available for free). Instead of presenting the grand Theory of Version Control and describing every possible option (whether you`d ever use it or not), this book focuses on the practical application of CVS. It builds a set of examples of use that parallel the life of typical projects, showing you how to adopt and then enhance your pragmatic use of CVS. With this book, you can: Keep project all assets (not just source code) safe, and never run the risk of losing a great idea Know how to undo bad decisions--no matter when they were made Learn how to share code safely, and work in parallel for maximum efficiency See how to avoid costly code freezes Manage 3rd party code Now there`s no excuse not to use professional-grade version control. Item Description: Shroff Publishers/Pragmatic Bookshelf, 2004. Softcover. Book Condition: New. . (illustrator). 18 x 23 cm. Learn how to improve your Java coding skills using unit testing. Despite it`s name, unit testing is really a coding technique, not a testing technique. Unit testing is done by programmers, for programmers. It`s primarily for our benefit: we get improved confidence in our code, better ability to make deadlines, less time spent in the debugger, and less time beating on the code to make it work correctly. This book shows how to write tests, but more importantly, it goes where other books fear to tread and gives you concrete advice and examples of what to test--the common things that go wrong in all of our programs. Discover the tricky hiding places where bugs breed, and how to catch them using the freely available JUnit framework. It`s easy to learn how to think of all the things in your code that are likely to break. We`ll show you how with helpful mnemonics, summarized in a handy tip sheet to help you remember all this stuff. With this book you will: Write better code, and take less time to write it Discover the tricky places where bugs breed Learn how to think of all the things that could go wrong Test individual pieces of code without having to include the whole project Test effectively with the whole team We`ll also cover how to use Mock Objects for testing, how to write high quality test code, and how to use unit testing to improve your design skills. We`ll show you frequent "gotchas"--along with the fixes--to save you time when problems come up. We`ll show you how with helpful mnemonics, summarized in a handy tip sheet But the best part is that you don`t need a sweeping mandate to change your whole team or your whole company. You don`t need to adopt Extreme Programming or Test-Driven Development, or change your development process in order to reap the proven benefits of unit testing. You can start unit testing, the pragmatic way, right away. Printed Pages: 160. Bookseller Inventory # 54348

Topics covered include: Physical features; Early settlements; the Tucker and Moore families and other early settlers, largely Catholic Kentuckians; Formation of the county and names of early officials; the first grand jury; the Murder of Mary Layton and other crimes; Martin Stephan, a "knave and a hypocrite" who led a group of German Lutherans to Perry County in 1839; the town of Perryville -- businesses and newspapers; Altenburg, Wittenburg, Longtown, and other villages; Lawyers; and other bits of history and trivia. Besides the names mentioned in the first part of the booklet, there are biographies of many county residents of yesteryear. In the course of this they often shed light on the early businesses, professions and institutions in the county. Item Description: The Goodspeed Publishing Co., Chicago Illinois. Spiral/Comb. Book Condition: New. No Jacket. Limited Edition Reprint. 8.5" x 11". Early days in Dallas County, MO, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales, factual data, and individual biographies in this NEW 123 page booklet, an excerpt reprinted from the rare 1889 book: History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri. The spiral bound booklet is 8 1/2 x 11" and is photocopied on 60# paper, with the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. Communities currently listed for this area by the National Association of Counties include: Buffalo (County Seat), Long Lane, Louisburg, Tunas, Urbana, and Windyville. Topics covered in the history of this rural county in central Missouri include: Physical Features, including Buffalo Head Prairie, the Little Niangua River, etc.; Origan of Names; First settlers and First Land Entries (many names of early residents and where they located); Wild Animals and Birds; County Organization; Municipal Townships; Public Buildings; Public Lands; Farming; Population; Railroads; Political Aspects, and Votes Cast; County Officers; Courts; Criminal Record, including several murder cases; the Mexican War; the Civil War -- troops raised, movements, losses; Towns and Villages -- Buffalo, Louisburg, Charity, Friendship Community, Urbana, etc.; Businesses, Societies, Newspapers; Schools; Churches; and other bits of history and trivia. In addition to the many names mentioned in the first section of the booklet, there are a number of fairly detailed individual biographies.
