Item Description: Bison Books. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Paperback. 197 pages. There is nothing particularly noteworthy about an Easter turkey. But when the turkey is stark white and appears on Easter Sunday on the doorstep of a Lakota medicine woman and her teenage granddaughter, it is clearly out of the ordinary. Taking turns, Stella and her grandmother, Hazel Latour, tell the story of what follows as the mysterious turkey stirs up discord on the reservation, where some greet it as wakan, holy and sacred because of its coloring and timing, and others dismiss it as inexplicable but unimportant, while a less reputable local healer views it as a clear challenge to his standing. A tour de force of storytelling, The Sacred White Turkey is at once remarkably entertaining, rich with suspense and humor, and deeply philosophical, exploring questions of spirituality and power, abuse and trickery, all within a framework that embraces both Native and Catholic traditions. As the Latours find themselves the target of escalating violence, embroiled in a BIA leasing scandal, and witnesses to a turkey crucifixion, readers will find themselves thoroughly engaged in the unfolding mystery and meaning of the sacred white turkey. Item Description: RareBooksClub. Paperback. Book Condition: New. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. 216 pages. Original publisher: Washington : U. S. G. P. O. : For sale by the Supt. of Docs. , U. S. G. P. O. , 2005. LC Number: KF26 . I45 2005a OCLC Number: (OCoLC)60379631 Subject: Tribal trust funds -- United States -- Accounting. Excerpt: . . . 11 Just a little backdrop, in 2002 in response to the BITAM that Jim Cason mentioned that was presented by the Secretary in the fall of 2001, it was agreed upon by the tribes through NCAI and the Secretary for creation of a task force that met pretty much for all of 2002. We did not want a bureaucracy that separates the man-agement of our lands from all of the activities that take place on our lands. What has instead evolved is a two-headed bureaucracy that would never make any decisions and would take resources from other important programs of the BIA and really limit services to Indian recipients. Despite our rejection of this BITAM, it seems like our worst fears are coming true as trust functions and resources are being shifted from the BIA to the Office of the Special Trustee. The Presidents budget for 2006 would cut 139 million from BIA, mostly from school construction, and add 76 million to OST. On top of this, OST has created trust officers without tribal consultation, with ba-sically no job description and basically no coordination with tribal governments. So after the meeting in Spokane, we reached an agreement to create this task force in 2002. After 10 months, the Department walked away from the table. However, some of the key rec-ommendations that were part of this proposed legislation that the Indian tribes will be drafting in the next few months, are based on the recommendations and discussions that came out of the 2002 task force. We had unanimous consent on three key issues. One is the cre-ation of an independent entity with oversight responsibility for trust reform. The Office of Special Trustee was originally envi-sioned as an independent office that could provide expert trust management advice and oversight. Inste. . . This item ships from La Vergne,TN. Brand New Book. ?Pojecha?em do ZSRR kilka razy w 1991 i 1992 roku i wi?cej nie chcia?em. Fantastyczni ludzie i obraza rozumu. Wielka sztuka i poni?aj?ce poszukiwania z opuszczonymi spodniami cho? kawa?ka papieru toaletowego. Wspania?a architektura i okno wychodz?ce na gór? ?mieci na wysoko?? drugiego pi?tra. Zabrak?o mi wtedy reporterskiego zrozumienia, zabrak?o determinacji. I oto Jacek Hugo-Bader wchodzi w imperium dla mnie. Bo kiedy czytam jego reporta?e, mam wra?enie, ?e specjalnie dla mnie-czytelnika prze?ywa te wszystkie przygody. Prze?ywa je niejako w moim imieniu. Wiem, ?e inni te? maj? takie wra?enie: czytaj? i czuj?, ?e to jest ich cz?owiek tam. I w?azi, gdzie ja bym si? ba? wle?? Ryszard Kapu?ci?ski opisywa? imperium z lotu ptaka; uchwyci? mechanizmy my?lenia, zachowa?, procesów. Hugo-Bader opisuje imperium z perspektywy wa??saj?cego si? psa; chwyta mechanizmy my?lenia, zachowa?, procesów i na dodatek szczura za ogon.? Mariusz Szczygie?, reporter Bia?a gor?czka (ob??d opilczy) jest efektem d?ugiego ci?gu alkoholowego, nazywanego po rosyjsku zapojem. Jej objawy to bezprzedmiotowy strach, halucynacje i agresja. The squares of AD, BC, AC, BD are equal to the squares of AB, DC, and four times the square of EF. Join AF, BF. Since AF bisects DC the base of the triangle ADC, AD + AC = 2DF + 2FA; and in the same manner, BC + BD = 2DF + 2FB-, (39.) If squares be described on the sides of a rightangled triangle; each of the lines joining the acute angles and the opposite angle of the square, will cut off from the triangle an obtuse-angled triangle, which will be equal to that cut off from the square by a line drawn from the intersection with the side to that angle of the square which is opposite to it. From the angles B, C of the right-angled triangle BAC, let lines BG, CD be D drawn to the angles of the squares described upon the sides, and from the intersections H and / let HE, IF be drawn to the opposite angles of the squares; the triangle BIC=AIF, and CHB = AHE. Join AG, AD. Then (Eucl. i. 37.) the triangle AFI= AIG; to each of which add ABI, .-. the triangle BIF= BAG--BCA (Eucl. i. 37.) From each of these equals take away the triangle BIA, and BIC= AIF.
